Just a heads up - even though delivery costs £3.50, a return trip to my local supermarket costs £3.70 by bus. Or £8ish taking a taxi. That, and the extra effort does need some food / drink to carry out! lol, works out cheaper for me, so could be worth it.

Thankyou for all your comments, if it was implemented it will be interesting to see how it effects health and anti social behaviour figures.

@ Chris I agree with you I think that if prices of alcohol at supermarkets were to go up it could definitely encourage drinking it pubs., which like you said probably wouldn't affect binge drinking much

@ Rob I see your point, I just think it would be extremely hard even impossible to implement a strategy like that as most kids just get someone else to buy it and there's no way of stopping that. But if the price increase priced some of the minors out of the market that could only be a good thing!

@J as always thankyou for your comments, I hope it would be as simple as all the figures dropping as predicted but as Chris said this could just encourage people to drink in pubs instead, we will see anyway!

@Ben brewing your own drink sounds like a good way to save money, but doesn't sound so good if you go blind, so maybe stick to buying it from the supermarkets for the time being, haha.

Hello Gabor,

Things are good thanks, glad you're working hard and trying to sort out your finances. The only reason I wouldn't do online food shopping is because of the amount they charge you to deliver, but if you can get that discounted or even free then it makes complete sense.

Yeah, it's been a while. :) Not too bad thanks, lots and lots of studying recently and also a lot of stressing over trying to sort out my finances haha. Yeah, the 8p noodles are a lifesaver! How are things round your way? I just went onto Google and typed in "ASDA online" and then right at the top it just gave me a code in one of those highlighted results.

Cheers

It could send sales of home brewing kits through the roof. Maybe a few people start trying to distil their own vodka, a few people go blind. Ah well, I know it won't stop me drinking at all, I'll just go and get another overdraft to live with the costs.

"This is just another policy enacted by the Tories to price the poor “scum” out of the market."

I tend to disagree with this.....The notion that the Tories are all about keeping the rich-rich at the expense of the poor is really outdated. Take the pupil premium for example and the capital gains tax that are coming in as clear examples of policies aimed at helping out the less fortunate and taking a fair share from the rich. In reality I believe the policy is necessary as people will almost without fail drink less as a result and thus health problems and anti social behavior will decline.

I don't think this would affect binge drinking much since pubs already charge above and beyond these prices, personally I think it might even increase some of the statistics stated since more people would be drinking more in the pubs if it is too expensive to drink in their own houses.

This is just another policy enacted by the Tories to price the poor "scum" out of the market. A better policy would be to crack down on letting minors get hold of the stuff and increase accountability of the people actually serving/selling the drink
