Good morning everyone, Monday morning comes round quick doesn’t it? Today we will be continuing with saving you money and focusing on something that was voted the biggest student expense of 2009 in a recent poll we carried out, nights out!

Day 8 – Saving on nights out

I know how much you like going out and I would never suggest stop doing it, there’s no need! Money can be saved from just making a few simple changes, so let’s get saving on nights out, happy reading : )

7 simple steps to saving money on a night out

1. Don’t go out on weekends go out on students nights instead, after all they are aimed at you! They will have cheaper entry, cheaper drinks and can quite often be half as expensive as a weekend night.

2. What’s on at your Students Union I think it’s important to be aware of what going on at your Students Union, obviously some Students Unions have more on than others but they are always going to have cheaper drinks and cheaper entry so definitely worth a night out there if you’re on a budget.

3. Drink before you go out this is probably the best way to save money out of all the tips to beat the ever increasing prices of pubs and clubs. Getting your drink from supermarkets is always going to be cheaper but of course make sure you drink responsibly!

4. Plan ahead and get your money in the day or as a last resort on the way to the club, I have seen many people get money out in nightclubs and consequently have to pay a fee to do this, you shouldn’t have to pay to get your own money!

5. Get there early this one’s not for everybody as it can be quiet and not very lively when you get there, but it’s a great simple way of saving money as quite often you can get free or highly discounted entry if you get there early.

6. Be organised by arranging transport home in advance and try and agree on a price, this is always going to be cheaper than getting a taxi on the night and it will mean you won’t have to wait around in this horrible cold weather at the moment.

7. Use your NUS card If you have an NUS card make sure you take it, I have seen a lot of people not bother using but them, but they nearly always get you discounted entry on night outs, so make sure you remember to take it out and use it!

All of the tips above are free, very easy to do and will help you save lots of money if you can use them regularly, so I challenge you all of you to carry out at least two of the tips the next time you go, its guaranteed to save you money! Do you spend too much a night out? It would be great to hear how you all get on?
