Hello everyone and welcome to my blog! I would firstly like to take this chance to introduce myself, my name’s Tom Smith, I am 22 and have recently graduated from university.

I am blogging to help students save money, and as a former student and discount website owner I believe this is something I know quite a lot about!

My aim is to update the blog 4 times a week, and will include any ways to make money and save money as a student, which I will explain as the week goes on so be sure to keeping checking back! But for now it’s going to be the ’tips of the week’ regular Monday feature, which I hope can all make you a bit of money to get you through the Christmas period, happy reading : )

10 ways to make money this Christmas without leaving your computer

1.Sell your unwanted stuff – Probably the most obvious out of all the ideas but it’s surprising how much unwanted stuff students seem to hoard, so I challenge you to sell something on Ebay. Ideally something that’s in the media category i.e. Books, CDs, DVDs because there is no insertion fee until 24th January 2010!

2. Scrapping mobile phones – Getting rid of your old mobile phones has never been easier, so if you have any old phones lying around make sure you sell them now. But to make sure you get the best price I have found a great comparison website.

3. Cash Back Websites – If you’re spending any money online this Christmas, make sure you sign up to a cash back website, meaning you typically can get between 5-10% back on purchases from most of the major online and high street retailers! There are many cash back websites on the market but the best one I have found is Quidco

4. Online Surveys – Get paid for giving your views and opinions on certain topics and products, payments range between 5p and £1 per survey, once again there are many companies on the market but a good one we have found is Onepoll and if you sign up today you earn an instant £2.50!

5. Cash-in any unwanted gold – Prices for gold have never been higher so it’s a great time to sell any unwanted jewellery you may have. There are many businesses on the market providing this service, so what I would say is shop around to get the best price, a few of the big players I have found are Postal Gold, Cash My Gold and finally The Money Shop, where you work out roughly how much you would get. But remember you dont have to accept their offer!

6. Poker – Probably the most controversial of the posts, but if you’re good then you can make a lot of money from it; I have got friends who make 5 figure sums from it every year. So what I would suggest is start playing with play money, the biggest online poker company and one I have played on many times is poker stars . I am a keen poker player so it would be great to hear how you get on.

7. Sell your text books – If me and my friends at university were anything to go by you will still have last year’s text books lying around gathering dust, which now have no use to you. So why not sell them? It’s definitely worth putting them on Amazon but might also be worth putting them on Sell Student Stuff where I have sold text books before.

8. Review music – Think you know a thing or two about music then get paid to review music at Slice the Pie with the better you are at writing reviews and spotting talent the more you get paid, definitely worth a go!

9. Sell photos – If you think you’re good at taking the odd picture then why not upload them to Photo Box and earn royalties on sales of photo books?

10. Keep reading my blog ; ) – And of course last but not least, keep reading my blog because I have got some great posts coming up in the next few weeks.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my first, it would be great to hear you feedback and any tips you may have to share with others! Wednesday’s our weekly poll so would be great if you could come back and visit us then!
